THE SCHOOL
Subiaco Academy is a college-preparatory resident and day school for boys. The school was founded in 1887 as an educational apostolate of Subiaco Abbey. The 100-acre campus adjoins the Abbey’s 1,700 acres of farmland. The campus is located in the beautiful Arkansas River Valley and is nestled against the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains.
ACCREDITATION AND AFFILIATION
The following associations accredit the Academy: Independent Schools Association of Central States, North Central Association, and the Arkansas Nonpublic School Accrediting Association, Inc. Subiaco Academy is also a member of the National Catholic Education Association, the National Association of Independent Schools, and TABS, The Association of Boarding Schools.
MISSION
Subiaco Academy, a boarding/day school,is dedicated to providing young men with the opportunity for a college preparatory education in a stable and structured environment nourished by Christian values. The Subiaco experience also provides the opportunity to create a sense of community, which is a reflection of Catholic Benedictine traditions of service to God, respect for self and others, mutual support, and the value of work.
STUDENTS
For the 2009-2010 school year, the student body consists of 172 students. The distribution of students is as follows: 36 seniors, 42 juniors, 40 sophomores, 38 freshmen and 16 eighth graders. The Academy has students from Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Approximately 23% of the student body is international with students representing the countries of Belarus, China, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, and Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles.
FACULTY
The faculty of 8 women and 16 men includes 4 Benedictine monks. The faculty members hold 27 baccalaureate degrees, 15 graduate degrees, and one doctorate from colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. The classroom teacher to student ratio is 1:10.
ADMISSION
Students who attend Subiaco Academy are accepted on the basis of an entrance exam, recommendations, an interview, and previous school records. Students attend the Academy by invitation only. Their yearly invitation is contingent upon their academic performance, behavior, and attitude.
ACADEMICS
To graduate from Subiaco Academy, a student must complete 26 academic units which include: 4 years of English, math, and theology; 3 years of social studies and science; 2 years of foreign language; 2 years of fine and performing arts; 1 year of physical education; and 1 semester of computer applications, oral communications and health. The students are strongly encouraged to perform at least 40 hours of community service.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES
The Advanced Placement program is comprised of 11 courses: English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Calculus AB, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, U.S. History, U.S. Government and Politics, and Studio Art. (English Literature alternates bi-annually with English Language; U.S. History alternates bi-annually with U.S. Government; all others are offered annually.)
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Every student participates in afterschool activities which include sports, drama, journalism, art, music, chess, ping pong, pool, hiking, book club, or community service. Subiaco Academy competes with public schools in quiz bowl, football, basketball, tennis, soccer, golf, baseball, trackand field, and cross-country. A variety of organizationsand activitieson campus give students the opportunity to develop or enhance their skills in leadership, self-discipline, and cooperative teamwork. The Benet Club offers an opportunity for spiritual growth and exploration of Benedictine life at Subiaco. The Blue Arrow is a leadership group of students who represent the Academy to prospective students and parents. The CASA Club sponsors cultural awareness programs on campus. The National Honor Society admits members on the basis of scholarship, character, service, and leadership. The Bunkerstube Club manages the student snack shop/game room on the weekends.
SUBIACO ACADEMY GRADE ANALYSIS
Studentsat Subiaco Academy are held to high standards with regard to their academic performance. The current grading scale is as follows: 90-100=A; 80-89=B; 70-79=C; 60-69=D; 0-59=F.

ACT AND SAT SCORES FOR THE CLASS OF 2009
The ACT was taken by 34 of the 45 members of the class of 2009. The average composite score for all Subiaco seniors taking the ACT exam was 24.7. The following graph compares the average ACT scores of Subiaco students with the scores of other students in Arkansas and in the nation who took the ACT exam.
The SAT I was taken by 22 of the 45 members of the class of 2009. The average combined writing, critical reading and math score for the class of 2009 was 1637. This average composite score represents a range of student scores from 1310 to 2180.
SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS
Members of the class of 2009 were offered many generous scholarships. The four-year value of the scholarships offered at the time of graduation was $3,446,355 and the students accepted approximately $1,275,367.
COLLEGE SELECTIONS
45 members of the Subiaco class of 2009 will be attending college in the fall of 2009. They will be attending 34 colleges in 22 states plus Mexico.
