The world as seen from space accurately reflects the fact of human interdependence. Clear, accurate, and respectful communication among the diverse cultures of the planet is essential for the very survival of the species. Subiaco Academy asks its students to celebrate human diversity and promote respectful human interchange by learning a second language, along with its associated culture. Such openness rests upon the centuries-old tradition of Benedictine commitment to cultural preservation.
The Academy presently offers three years of Spanish, two years of Latin, and an English as a second language (ESL) course. Each student is required to take two years of the same foreign language. The foreign language department hopes, in the near future, to offer a fourth year of Spanish, an additional foreign language, and a summer Spanish immersion program with studies abroad.
