ACADEMICS   >   Mathematics

The Mathematics Department offers a quality mathematics program in the context of the school's philosophy. Specifically, the student is assisted in the acquisition of skills and work experience needed to be successful in mathematically-oriented college courses such as physics, computer design, chemistry, engineering, etc.

Effective methods of thinking and problem solving are developed, and consistent work habits and study skills are continually reinforced.

The program strives to help the student develop the self-confidence necessary for effective independent mathematical research.

The Subiaco Academy Math Department consists of five teachers and ten courses.
Pre-Algebra (8th grade) Algebra I (8th or 9th grade)

Pre-AP Geometry (9th or 10th grade) Geometry (10th grade)

Pre-AP Algebra II (10th or 11th grade) Algebra II (11th grade)

Pre-AP Pre-Calculus (11th or 12th grade) AP Statistics (11th or 12th grade)

AP Calculus AB (11th or 12th grade) Algebra III / Trig. (12th grade)

                                                                                                                              Department Policies:

1. All math offerings require the approval of the Teacher, Department Chair, or Academic Dean.

2. All math students from Algebra I up must have a graphing calculator. Any calculator in the TI series of 83, 83+, 84, or 84+ is acceptable.

3. If a new 9th grade student who has already had Algebra I, he may take Pre-AP Geometry provided his Algebra I grade was 85 or higher. If his grade was lower than this, he will have to take Algebra I here before advancing. A freshmen Algebra I student may take both Pre-AP Geometry and Pre-AP Algebra II if he shows he has the math ability to handle both classes and can schedule both classes.

4. Members of the math faculty will meet with returning students at scheduling time to help the students choose the course they should take the following year and give the appropriate approval.

5. A student must take four mathematics courses beginning in the ninth grade to meet graduation requirements.
