Driver education is designed to introduce students to basic techniques and defensive driving strategies that help them gradually become accomplished drivers, and therefore, productive members of the community. Five weeks are spent in the classroom learning regulations and safe driving practices. The local community takes part in the instruction through the use of guest speakers such as Emergency Medical Technicians. The remainder of the course in spent in actual driving. The student is exposed to the following: light residential driving, light to medium traffic highway driving, various types of intersections, and several parking situations.
