Subiaco Academy is very fortunate to have a Support Services Team in place whose goal is "success" for every student. This is a big task, but Subiaco's Team is up to the challenge because each student is a top priority at Subiaco. Meet the Team:
Mrs. Shirley Kiefer is the Director of Student Development/Learning Resource Center and her office is located in the Learning Resource Center of the Academy Library. Mrs. Kiefer provides the following services:
· Conduct evening study hall in the Learning Resource Center
· Serve as coordinator of the peer tutoring program
· Offer test preparation sessions for SAT and ACT tests
· Coordinate interventions in reading comprehension, note taking, study/organizational skills and time management
· Serve as a mentor for learning, teaching, and thinking strategies, and academic skills acquisition
· Increase teacher awareness of distinctive learning characteristics
Student Services welcomes Mr. Robert Pugh in the new position of Guidance Counselor at Subiaco Academy. His office is located in the Learning Resource Center in the Academy Library. Mr. Pugh provides the following services:
· Help new students in their adjustment to the Subiaco environment
· Be available to talk with students as needed
· Offer guidance to students with emotional needs
· Coordinate outside counseling services if necessary
· Offer support and encouragement
· Serve as a student advocate
Mrs. Michelle Chuang is the English as a Second Language Instructor at Subiaco Academy. Mrs. Chuang provides the following services:
· Assist with the Learning Resource Center
· Offer test preparation sessions for TOEFL (iBT)
· Conduct the phone interview and the language evaluation to bi-lingual students
Mrs. Del Berry, the School Nurse, assists students by offering the following services:
· Handle illnesses and injuries
· Administer routine medications for students daily
· Conduct diocesan-mandated annual health screenings (hearing, vision, and scoliosis)
· Coordinate medical appointments for boarding students
· Keep and maintain medical records for all students
· Offer guidance with emotional needs
· Screen students’ mental health status as needed
· Coordinate counseling services if necessary
Fr. Brendan, Spiritual Counselor, provides the services listed below:
· Assist with the peer tutoring program
· Be available for spiritual guidance
· Provide a Benedictine presence
Mrs. Chandra Rush, Director of College Guidance, is available to offer the following:
· Provide assistance with College and Career Planning
· Coordinate standardized testing: EXLORE, PLAN, PSAT, ACT, SAT, TOEFL, and AP exams
· Offer guidance, support, and encouragement
