
The recreational media reflects the respect for self that requires a balance between work and play. Some of the sources used for this are the library, satellite TV, high speed internet and educational videos.
All of the classrooms are TV and VCR equipped. Eight classrooms have either LCD or DLP projectors and four of these classrooms also have interactive whiteboards. Twelve classrooms have computers and all classrooms are wired for internet.
Subiaco Academy has three local area networks. The administration network connects all the administration offices, business offices and the monastery. The classroom network connects all the classrooms in Wardlaw Hall, Alumni Hall, Centenary Hall, the Library and the Computer Center. The dorm network connects all the student rooms in the Main Building and in Heard Hall. All of these networks are connected to a router for internet service. The internet is provided on all networks by a wireless 5 megabit download connection. Internet filtering is done by our provider.
The Computer Lab is open for student use from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends from 1:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The Academy’s web site provides the following databases for student research purposes: Grolier, EBSCO, Gale’s Discovering Collection, and OCLC First Search.
The library has around 17,000 volumes, not including the bound periodicals. The card catalog is computerized and available for use on the classroom network. There are two libraries (Abbey and Academy), and they are adjacent to each other. The combined periodical holdings of over 100 titles are housed in the Academy Library and are available to students.
