Subiaco strives to produce students who are independent, energetic, responsible, and mature. Renaissance Day is but one of the tools used to reinforce these qualities and is thus essential to their overall education. Renaissance Day is meant to be an academic enrichment day. Activities are offered that expose the students to educational opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting.
The activities offer students a chance to use active learning techniques, critical thinking skills, and collaborative techniques in order to further their education. Renaissance Day also enables the students to see their teachers in a different setting outside the classroom. Faculty members and monks design programs that reflect activities and hobbies that they are interested in and for which they have a passion. On three designated days per year, students are given an opportunity to participate in these activities with the faculty sponsor. Renaissance Days allow students to not only participate in activities that they might not otherwise be exposed to, but also allow them to interact with faculty members and monks that they might not otherwise get to know in a relaxed and fun environment. Renaissance Days strengthen the bond between the Abbey and the Academy, making them one community. In the constituent survey, 84.6% of the faculty and 79.5% of the students feel that the school has a caring and community environment.
