Wrestling team has success at Regionals!
In a display of skill and determination, Subiaco Academy's wrestling team showcased their prowess at the 4A North Regional Tournament held on February 17, 2024. Led by head coach Kinzer Matjazic and assistant coach Nick McDaniel, the team saw several of its wrestlers finish in top positions, earning them spots in the upcoming State Championship Tournament slated for February 23-24, 2024.
Among the standout performers was Emmett Page, competing in the 132-pound weight class. Page exhibited remarkable resilience and technique, securing a 3rd-place finish. Throughout the tournament, Page demonstrated his proficiency on the mat, notching crucial victories, including a decisive win by fall over opponent Phoenix Simcox from Pottsville in the 3rd place match.
Another notable achievement came from Ben Dang, who represented Subiaco Academy in the 144-pound weight class. Dang's prowess was on full display as he navigated through the brackets, ultimately clinching the 3rd place spot. His journey included victories over opponents Justin Goodwin and Esteban Pastor-Bonilla.
Camarion Raino continued to be a formidable force in the 285-pound weight class, securing a 2nd-place finish. Raino's dominance on the mat was evident as he swiftly dispatched opponents with a combination of strength and skill. Despite a hard-fought battle in the championship match against David Moreno from Berryville, Raino's performance throughout the tournament underscored his status as a top contender in his division.
While not all wrestlers clinched podium finishes, each showcased determination. Wrestlers like Noah Bloomdahl, Stone Lee, and Luis Araujo displayed grit and perseverance in their respective matches, contributing valuable points to the team's overall score.
With their impressive showing at the regional tournament, Subiaco Academy's wrestlers have set the stage for an exciting showdown at the State Championship Tournament. Under the guidance of their coaching staff, these athletes are poised to make their mark on the state stage, aiming for success in the days to come.
