Jude attended the annual 3-day event for rising high school juniors held at Southern Arkansas University. Students were versed in the skill set necessary to be a leader, discovered what their individual leadership style may be, connected with leaders around the state, and built lasting friendships to prepare themselves to make a positive impact in their school and community. The premier leadership curriculum of the internationally-respected HOBY guides and mentors students through their journey to become Arkansas’ future leaders. 2024-25 MARTIN SCHRIVER AWARD Congrats to Tyler Stevens and Luis Araujo, recipients of the 2024-25 Martin Schriver Award! This award is named in honor of Martin Schriver, a carpenter for Subiaco Abbey and Academy from 1900 to 1970. It is presented to a student who exhibits an exemplary work ethic, involvement in school activities, and respect for teachers and fellow students. A student may receive this award only once while attending Subiaco Academy. Luis and Tyler graduated our Academy on May 17 and plan to continue their education at respected Universities. As the school year drew to a close, we gathered to honor the exceptional accomplishments of both students and faculty at Subiaco Academy’s annual Academic Honors Assembly. A special congratulations to Mr. Isaac Cotherman, member of the English department, who received the 2025 Endowed Chair for Excellence in Teaching. We also proudly presented the Headmaster’s Award for Distinguished Service to Fr. Jerome Kodell, a devoted alumnus and enduring presence of faith and service in our Subiaco community. Both recipients were presented with a Medal of Honor by Headmaster Dr. David Wright. Two Subiaco rising seniors are experiencing Arkansas Boys State 2025 this week. Alex Stengel and Samuel Wu are among more than 600 students from throughout the state attending Arkansas Boys State at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Students are mock citizens in eight different counties, sixteen cities, and two political parties. Samuel Wu was elected on May 26 as Justice of the Peace 2 for Hanner County, a mock county, and on May 28 he was elected as the Secretary of State for the Federalist Party. We can't wait to hear the final results! Proud of our Trojans! At this year’s graduation ceremony, we proudly celebrated three of our most meaningful awards: The Pereyra Award for Unselfishness was presented to Joshua Post, of Altus, Arkansas, in memory of the brave student who gave his life to save others, Rodolfo "Rudy" Pereyra, a legacy of courage and selflessness. This award was presented by Abbot Elijah Owens, OSB. The Coury Cup went to Jude Thang Khual-Ngaihte, of Mansfield, Arkansas, recognized as the top all-around athlete — a student who exemplifies excellence in sports, has good character and academics. This award was presented by Abbot Elijah Owens, OSB. The Pat & Vickie Wardlaw Scholarship, a prestigious $10,000 award, was awarded to Gilbert Tarmo, of Denton, Texas, recognizing exceptional promise and achievement. This scholarship was presented by Becky (Wardlaw) and Ray Meadows, daughter and son-in-law of the late Pat & Vickie Wardlaw. These honors are some of the most anticipated each year — and this year’s recipients truly embody their spirit. Recognizing excellence: Congratulations to Evan Everett, Salutatorian of the Class of 2025 from Van Buren, Arkansas. Evan has been a pillar of leadership, perseverance, and excellence in his six years at Subiaco. A student athlete for all six years, he has shown leadership as the Senior Captain of the Soccer team, and Senior Captain of the Cross Country team. His role as a leader continued to his involvement as a Student Council Representative, the lead trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble, the National Honors Society President, academic tutor for his peers, and Senior Captain for the Quiz Bowl team. Additionally, he was chosen by the administration to be a student ambassador for the Academy as a member of the Blue Arrow program, through which he acted as a campus guide and host for prospective students and families. Evan has excelled through his own self-determination and initiative, supported every step of the way by his family, including his older brother, Aidan (Class of 2021). After considering several options, Evan has decided to continue his education at Oklahoma State University and plans to advance on to Medical school with hopes of becoming a physician. Join us in celebrating Connor Wasielewski, our 2025 Valedictorian! A native of Branson, Missouri, Connor is a symbol of hard work, leadership, and academic excellence! Connor received over $708,000 in scholarships and was offered a full ride to Missouri S&T, Embry-Riddle and University of Michigan. He has decided to attend the Univ. of Michigan and major in Aerospace Engineering with a possible double major in Space Studies. His long term academic plan is to earn a PhD and be part of the Mars habitation and transportation project with SpaceX. Onward Trojans!
