ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE in a college prep environment. A 7:1 student-teacher ratio means increased individualized attention, tailored learning programs, and a specialized emphasis on quality education. A low student-teacher ratio has been found to lead to better test scores, higher graduation rates, and overall higher academic success. At Subiaco Academy we have 100% acceptance rate to colleges and universities throughout the U. S. Interested in finding out more about us? We welcome you to schedule a visit, tour campus, and get to know our students and faculty. We will host an OPEN HOUSE on August 23, 2024. Join us! Saint of the Day: Today the Church celebrates Saint Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene is especially significant as, according to Mark 16:9–10 and John 20:14–17, being the first person to see the resurrected Christ. Mary Magdalene, one of the most prominent figures in the New Testament, was a disciple of Jesus. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus cleansed her of seven demons, and she financially aided him in Galilee. She was one of the witnesses of the Crucifixion and burial of Jesus.

Rising senior, Hudson Pruitt, represented Subiaco Academy this summer at Arkansas Boys State on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway. Congratulations to Hudson for being elected to the City Council in his community. During Boys State, students are mock citizens in eight counties and congressional districts, sixteen cities, and two political parties. Delegates are assigned a political party, city, and county. Throughout the week, delegates, from the ground up, administer this mock government as if it were real: they run for office, draft and pass legislation, solve municipal challenges, and engage constituents. By the week's end, the delegates have experienced civic responsibility and engagement firsthand while making life-long memories and friends - all with the guiding principle that "Democracy Depends on Me." #BoysState #subiacoacademy #onwardtrojans

FRUITS OF THE FAITH: Grateful to our dedicated alumni for taking time this summer to mentor and inspire current Subiaco Trojans at a recent Steubenville Youth Conference. Their involvement and strong connection to the Catholic faith is helping to shape the next generation of leaders, grounded in Christian morals and values. Close to 5,000 Catholic youth attended this event in Springfield, Missouri, and a total of 18 Steubenville Youth Conferences took place in multiple locations all over the country this summer. The highlight of these conferences is the emphasis on Eucharistic adoration and Reconciliation. Subiaco delivers on Faith and Brotherhood! With excitement, we welcome Mr. Nathan Browning to Subiaco Academy this fall as an instructor of personal finance, computer applications, and civics. He will also serve as an assistant wrestling coach. Mr. Browning comes to us with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, and is currently pursuing a master's degree. After a successful high school and college wrestling career, he decided to become an educator and coach. In his career, he has helped coach 8 individual state champions along with over 20 state placers. "I am grateful and excited to become a Subiaco Trojan this year." Originally from Greenbrier, Arkansas, Mr. Browning currently lives in London, Arkansas with his wife, Heaven, and daughter, Olivia. They are eagerly awaiting their 2nd daughter’s arrival in October. He enjoys hunting with family at deer camp, and during the summer months can be found camping and fly fishing. He enjoys watching football, hockey, and college wrestling. His ultimate enjoyment, he says, comes from coaching wrestling. When asked what he is looking forward to the most, he said, "I am excited to meet all of my students and teach this upcoming year...As a wrestler, you learn to be steadfast and to persevere through problems that arise. I hope to instill that culture with my students in the classroom." "In terms of coaching, I am excited to bring out every student's raw and anticipated talent for all to witness...I hope to develop young athletes who will set the bar for their devotion to God both on and off the mat." This outlook lines up with our mission at Subiaco Academy to see Christ in each student as we guide him in his response to God, aid the development of his known and hidden talents, and foster his growth into manhood. In closing, Mr. Browning added, "My favorite verse that I carry with me is Proverbs 3:5-6. 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.'" Welcome to the Subiaco Academy family, Mr. Browning, and Onward Trojans! #subiacoacademy #onwardtrojans

Today is the feast of Benedict of Nursia, saint, founder of the Benedictine order and the reason our Subiaco Academy is here today. Born in the year 480 in Italy, "...his first monasteries were established in the Anio valley outside Subiaco, Italy. Benedict's monasteries in Subiaco became centers of education for children, a tradition which would continue in the order during his lifetime and beyond." (Catholic News Agency. St. Benedict) We are grateful to benefit from one of those in that "beyond". Pray for us, St. Benedict! This summer we are celebrating our Trojans and their success at their summer jobs, activities, and internships! We proudly highlight our exceptional students and recent graduates. Daniel Wu | Class of 2024 | Biotechnology internship Before beginning his higher education in the fall, Daniel Wu is gaining experience this summer with Now Diagnostics, a biotechnology company in Springdale, Arkansas. For nine weeks he will work to develop and manufacture new methods of diagnostic, and also will be involved in the research and development of health services. Daniel began at Subiaco Academy in the 7th grade, and had a very successful six years, both academically and athletically. A 4A All-Conference and All-State Swimmer, he excelled in all classes, receiving the Medals for Excellence in English, Science, and World Languages; the Medals for Highest Scholastic Average-2 years, and graduating as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2024. As an active member of C.A.S.A., "Cultural Awareness of Subiaco Academy", he was able to share his Chinese heritage with the student population. "My parents have always emphasized to me that I must always work hard at what I do." Learning about the hardships that his parents endured as immigrants to America from Taiwan made an impact on him. He views it as "... an invaluable lesson, because you will never see the best version of yourself without being uncomfortable." "Through Subiaco, the faculty and staff made it possible for me to have many opportunities to continue higher education." He received acceptance into several notable schools, including Marquette University, Hendrix College, the University of Arkansas, and appointments to both the U. S. Air Force Academy and the U. S. Naval Academy. The four pillars emphasized at Subiaco Academy~ Faith, Character, Scholarship, and Brotherhood~ are exemplified in Daniel, who says his final goal for a vocation or career is "...to become a dentist/orthodontist, but most importantly to be a Man of God in everything I do." For the opportunity to educate and help form a student such as Daniel Wu at Subiaco Academy, may God be Glorified! #onwardtrojans #subiacoacademy

Subiaco Academy proudly welcomes Mr. BJ Applegate! Mr. Applegate will serve as the head football and baseball coach, as well as instruct the Middle School students in history. He received his Bachelor of Science from Arkansas Tech University, and his master's degree from Harding University. He continued to Texas A&M University at Texarkana where he earned his Superintendent certification. Coach Applegate comes to us with the extended experience of 29 years in education. He recently retired from public schools as the Superintendent of Mountain Pine school district with the goal of returning to the reason he became an educator. He looks forward to being in the classroom and on the field once again, and is ready for the opportunity to again be around the students and athletes every day. He and his wife are both from Dardanelle, Arkansas. One of the things they most enjoy is spending time on the lake on their boat with family and friends, especially their four grandkids. They also love to camp, hunt, and fish. When asked what he is most looking forward to at Subiaco Academy, Coach Applegate says, "I want the students in the classroom to learn at the best level they can and the athletes to be the best they can be on and off the field. ...I am looking forward to meeting the parents, faculty, staff and especially the students. I expect my players to be an example to others of what it means to be a Godly young man. I want to be a mentor who will lead and guide them in the right direction, both academically and spiritually." Welcome to the Subiaco family, Coach Applegate! And Onward Trojans! #subiacoacademy #STP #onwardtrojans #subiacoacademyathletics

FR. CASSIAN'S SUMMER BREAK is serving up PIZZA, GELATO, and ROME!🇻🇦With a side of a "Leadership and the Rule" continuing education program. Fr. Cassian was assigned by Abbot Elijah to attend a three-week summer program at our Benedictine institution of Sant'Anselmo in Rome. Br. Raban is attending the same program, as he recently completed his third and final year of studies as a student at the Benedictine Pontificio Sant'Anselmo in Rome. We look forward to welcoming both monks back home to our Subiaco campus later this summer, where they will both return to instruct our students this fall, and Br. Raban will celebrate his priestly ordination on November 22, 2024. We are grateful that our monks have the opportunity to dedicate time to grow in their education and vocation. We have world-class leaders and instructors in our monks, and our Subiaco students have reaped the benefits of this throughout the years. For the gift of Fr. Cassian and Br. Raban to our Subiaco community, and for authentic 🇮🇹Italian pizza and gelato 🍧we give thanks, and in all things May God be Glorified! #subiacoacademy #STP #onwardtrojans #benedictineschools

We continue to recognize "TROJANS WHO INSPIRE US": Stories of Alumni Who Continue to Lead and Serve. Victor Mendoza, Class of 2006, originates from Saltillo, Mexico. He credits his path to Subiaco to the interest in the elevated education offered by the Benedictine prep school, a strong faith, and success in basketball. He utilized his skill of being a team player to reach a life goal of creating his own successful business in Oil & Gas Investment Banking. In a 2022 interview with Jordan Soto of Hart Energy, Victor cited that a good leader in the oil and gas industry needs to “Share the glory: Nothing is possible without your entire team. I think it is important to give personal recognition to your team members after every transaction...". This mindset sounds like something encouraged by Coach Tim Tencleve, the person at Subiaco that Victor says had the most influence on him while a student. "Coach was a great mentor as I matured into an adult. He could be hard at times and pushed me to be better in all facets of my life...." Victor recognizes the seeds of giving back were planted while he was a student at Subiaco, as he saw the consistent alumni involvement. "It instilled a great desire to stay involved, and to give back once I graduated." He is following through on that goal, and is currently serving as a Subiaco Academy Foundation Board Member. In addition to a world class education, something gained while at Subiaco for which Victor is grateful, is Brotherhood. If he could tell current students one thing, it would be to "...enjoy this time, and stay in touch with your Subi brothers after you graduate. These friendships last a lifetime." Victor earned a mechanical engineering degree from Texas A & M University, worked internationally for a small period of time and has been residing and working in Houston, Texas now for 15 years. He and his wife, Sarah, are parents to a son, Oscar, and are expecting a daughter, Carolina, in August 2024. Thank you, Victor Mendoza, for inspiring us and giving back to our Subiaco community! May God bless you, and in all things May God be Glorified. #subiacoacademy #subiacoacademyalumni #STP

This summer we are celebrating our Trojans and their success at their summer jobs, activities, and internships! Luis Araujo, Evan Everett, Samuel Wu | Class of 2025 and 2026 | UAMS M*A*S*H program Dedicated students are gaining invaluable hands-on experience and making a difference at the MASH summer program at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Our students with interest in future careers in the medical field were selected from a broad number of applicants to the Medical Application of Science for Health, a two-week program in which high school students explore health careers. During the two weeks, the students are given the opportunity to explore different aspects of the medical field in the real-life situations of the hospital. They partake in team-building exercises, attend workshops and shadow health professionals. Example activities that the students experience are CPR training, heart dissection, and a suturing workshop. A field trip to the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Smith is a highlight of the program. Luis Araujo is a rising senior from Fort Smith, Arkansas. Evan Everett is a rising senior from Van Buren, Arkansas. Samuel Wu is a rising junior from Subiaco, Arkansas. All acknowledge the significant time commitment to participate in this MASH program, and feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to explore the career of medicine in a controlled environment, and be allowed to observe and discover if it is the field that they will choose to pursue. #uamsmashprogram #subiacoacademy
