Welcome to this week's Subiaco Spotlight! Our faculty and staff work tirelessly for our students and families, and we want to celebrate them! Every week, we feature a different faculty or staff member and learn more about what makes them tick. Today's spotlight is on instructor of Freshmen religion classes, manager of Wardlaw Student Center, Trojan Shop and vending, and officer of alumni relations, Fr. Reginald Udouj, O.S.B. What's your favorite part of your job? Being with the students, and solitary time in the choir. Where were you born and where did you grow up? Fort Smith, Arkansas What's your favorite spot on campus? The Monastic choir What's your favorite food? Lobster What was your favorite subject in school? History What activities or sports were you involved in during high school or when you were younger? Schnellheit, (a Fr. Frowin invention), football, baseball, and soccer. I wasn't particularly good at any of them. Who is your favorite sports team? St. Louis Cardinals When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Different things at different times... probably either a priest or a cowboy. What's your strongest memory from your first day ever at Subiaco? The Bells. My freshman year they went off all night long. What's a fun fact about yourself that others might be surprised to know? I was ordained wearing a Grateful Dead shirt.

'Honestly, you're right, this is WAY better than lying in bed all day' With a little courage to crawl out of bed on a cold morning- great days can be made! 11 of our boys learned that today as we were reminded of how beautiful Arkansas can be- and how tasty hot chocolate is after a cold hike!

When the LEARNS Act created the Educational Freedom Account (EFA) program to provide families with funding to meet educational needs, it was designed to grow this year with both new students who could qualify beginning in 2024 and new uses for the funds. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, please attend this zoom meeting. At 7 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 23, The Reform Alliance is hosting an online webinar with Darrell Smith, head of the EFA program at the Department of Education, to discuss those changes and share information prior to new enrollment later this year. Free registration is available here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6817043119891/WN_sohoCTT3RliEISIvzx_zRg#/registration

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE STUDENTS this morning helped Br. Adrian Strobel (Class of '62) shell the pecans that they harvested with him months ago. These pecans will be shared with the kitchen staff to create delicious recipes for our students and monks. The boys are hoping for pecan pie! Our outdoor adventure program is headed up by Mr. Nick McDaniel, and the boys enjoy many unique educational experiences under his leadership and guidance.
